Q. I don’t have any care experience, can I apply?
A. Yes, we welcome you. Experience is not essential as full induction training is given.

Q. Who will interview me?
A. Along with other suitable applicants, you will be invited along to attend our “Group Information Session” where we will give you details about Primary Care as well as us being able to find out a little bit about you. If we would like to find out if you are suitable for any of our Roles two members of our operations team will carry out an individual interview.

 

Q. How long will the whole recruitment process take?
A. It depends on the speed of your checks, references and enhanced CRB returning. New team members are normally ready to start work within 2 – 4 weeks

 

Q. What is a CRB Disclosure
A. Anyone who is working with children or vulnerable adults, whether  paid or unpaid are required to complete an Enhanced Criminal Record Bureau Disclosure check. This is the process by which individuals can make an application to find out if they have a police record, whether this is a conviction, final warning, reprimand or a caution. You can’t work for Primary Care without this successfulcheck being received.

 

Q. Who completes my CRB form?
A. We will invite you to come to the Primary Care office with all of your details. Your CRB will be completed on line by a trained member of our administration team.

 

Q. Do I have to pay for my CRB?
A. Yes, it costs £55.00 for an enhanced CRB which checks both the Children’s and Adult’s register’s. You will need to bring a cheque or cash with you when you do this.

 

Q. How long will my CRB take to return?
A. Normally between 5 days and 4 weeks depending on your personal circumstances.

 

Q. How will I receive my CRB Disclosure
A. You will receive a paper copy of your CRB Disclosure Certificate direct to your home address. We also receive a copy of your CRB Disclosure on line.

 

Q. Can I start work without a CRB?
A. Only in specific circumstances, if you have completed a “POVA first check” and are always working “shadowed” by another team member.

 

Q. What is a POVA First check?
A. Applicants can request a POVA First check on their Disclosure application, which would allow them to see the result of the POVA check before the full Disclosure is received, which may enable a care worker to start work at the earliest opportunity.

 

Q. Can I apply to work flexible hours?
A. Yes, as long as they suit the needs of our service users. Our Team members work anything from a few hours a week to full time.

 

Q. What will happen when I first meet a new service user?
A. You will always be introduced to a new service user by a senior member of staff and taken through an induction at the persons house.

 

Q. What qualifications do I need?
A. You do not need any formal qualifications, We provide all the support, guidance, induction and job specific training you need to enable you to carry out your duties to a high standard.

 

Q. Do I need to do any exams?
A. Not exams No. We do ask for all new team members to successfully complete a basic numeracy and a literacy test during the recruitment process.

 

Q. What training do you offer?
A. We offer a full in house induction and training programme. Initially new team members attend a mandatory induction day covering  safeguarding, manual handling, first aid,  food hygiene,  finances and medication. This day will also give you the opportunity to meet the office team and other new team members. Following this you will be registered on an  e-learning programme covering the Common Induction Standards accredited by City and Guilds.  Further e-learning such as medication training also needs to be completed and you will be assessed within the workplace to ensure you are competent. In addition to all mandatory training, other job specific training is offered.  Depending on the service users you support, short courses in dementia, learning disability, autism t- his may be at award, certificate or diploma level.

You will also be expected to undertake an Diploma in Health and Social Care (Adults) after a successful probation period.

 

Q. Who carries out the training?
A. We have our own in house Training Coordinator: Mandy who is a fully trained nurse. You will also receive support, guidance, supervision and observation from your allocated coordinator.

 

Q. Do I need to be able to drive?
A. It opens up opportunities if you are able to drive, as some of the people we support require help with transportation although not all, so don’t let this stop you applying.

 

Q. Will I receive mileage payments?
A. Yes, 36p per mile from first place of work. You will need to produce a valid business class driving insurance, driving license and MOT .

 

Q. Do I have to wear a uniform?
A. This depends on the position you have applied for. We do provide polo shirt for those team members who will need them. See our Dress Code Policy for Homecare Workers and Support Workers .
